Duffy's Red Star Chocolate, Cleethorpes
Best for: British made chocolate
Duffy Sheardown spent 25 years building racing cars before hearing on the radio one day that ‘no one in the UK makes chocolate from cocoa apart from Cadburys'. That was just too much of a challenge and a few years later Duffy is the surprise star and leader of the UK micro-batch bean to bar movement. In a modest small scale factory close to the fish and chips of Cleethorps' seafront, Duffy is producing plain and milk chocolate bars with exotic sounding names like ‘Tierra Oscura' with cacao from Panama, ‘Corazon del Ecuador' and ‘Ocumare', from Venezuela. You can buy online or at the many local fairs, where you'll find Duffy selling his chocolate in person. Also stocked in delis around the UK.
